How did you come to work at Metro Transit and what do you do?

I started working for Metro Transit Police Department (MTPD) in October 2012.  I was working as a reserve officer for a different department, and the chief of that department told me about MTPD.  Big city policing intrigued me, and I applied and got the job. I am currently a sergeant and oversee the Homeless Action Team (HAT) and the Transit Response Unit (TRU).

What is your favorite part about working for Metro Transit?

I enjoy working for MTPD because every day is different.  I enjoy working with all the different cultures and clients for whom Metro Transit provides service. I have great co-workers and glad I am here.

What are your favorite activities when you’re not working or “Off the Clock?”

In the fall when I am not working, I spend my time coaching offensive linemen for Minneapolis North’s football team and am in my sixth season with the team.  The best part is being able to be part of the Minneapolis North community and teaching the young boys how to be young men and leaders in their community.  In both high school and college, I had great coaches and mentors. I had to pass on what I had learned to the next generation. Originally, I went to college for physical education and coaching but never got into the career field. At 28, I realized that being an officer was what I wanted. After college, I coached on the side. I have coached three different teams and have been coaching for 16 years.
