Metro Transit providing affordable, convenient rides to the State Fair

ST. PAUL (Aug. 19) – Fairgoers can avoid congestion and ride in comfort to and from the Great Minnesota Get-Together by taking Metro Transit.

Metro Transit and partner agencies will provide express bus service to the Minnesota State Fair from 20 Park & Ride locations across the Twin Cities, with trips running every 15 to 30 minutes from 8 a.m. to midnight throughout the fair. Select Park & Ride sites are open only on weekends and Labor Day.

Discounted Bus Bargain Tickets can be purchased online through Wednesday, Aug. 20. Individual and group fares can be purchased in advance online or at boarding locations after the fair opens. A single, round-trip ride is $5. Parking is free.

Metro Transit will drop-off and pick-up passengers at the new State Fair Transit Hub, located on the west side of the fairgrounds. The Univeristy of Minnesota Transitway provides direct access to the Transit Hub, allowing buses to avoid congestion on Como Avenue.

In addition to express buses, Route 960, with service from downtown Minneapolis, will use the new Transit Hub.

For the first time this year, fairgoers can include the METRO Green Line in their trip to the State Fair. Customers traveling on the Green Line will transfer to Route 84 at the Snelling Avenue Station and be at the fairgrounds in less than ten minutes.

In 2013, nearly 450,000 fairgoers rode Metro Transit to the State Fair. State Fair service is paid for entirely through fare revenue.
