I-35W & Lake Street Station
I-35W & Lake Street Station in Minneapolis is a new, two-story transit station, located between the northbound and southbound lanes of I-35W. This station allows customers to board both METRO Orange Line and I-35W express bus routes on the freeway level, and provides easy connections to Lake Street, local bus routes, and the Midtown Greenway. The entire station is ADA accessible, including elevators to access both station levels, and provides a significant upgrade in comfort and safety over previous bus stops.
Beginning Thursday, Oct. 21, these routes will serve the station:
- Metro Transit routes 21, 27, 535, 553, 578, and 597
- SouthWest Transit routes 600 and 695
- MVTA express routes 460, 464, 465, 470, 472, 475, 476, 477, and 478 will begin serving the I-35W level on Nov. 20, 2021
The station building will be open Monday – Friday, 5 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. Building hours will be extended to weekends when the Orange Line starts service on Dec. 4.
Construction of the station was part of a major investment in street, transit and accessibility improvements for customers. The broader 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown project included a redesign of the freeway between I-94 and 42nd Street. The project was led by MnDOT in partnership with Hennepin County, the City of Minneapolis, and Metro Transit.
